The DE Energetic Department of the University of Florence has been
founded in 1983 with the scientific proposal to constitute a group aimed
at developing and co-ordinating the scientific research in the field of the
energy conversion processes, the power plants and the machinery. The
present sectors are: Power Plants, Heat Transfer and Thermodynamics,
Mechanical Plants and Numerical Analysis, Chemistry and Physics.

PyNe - The Biomass Pyrolysis Network - is a global network of active researchers and developers of fast pyrolysis of biomass. PyNe is co- ordinated by Aston University with Professor Tony Bridgwater. PyNe is sponsored by TREN of the European Commission and IEA Bioenergy.

The Universidade Nova de Lisboa - UN/FCT/GDEH, established in 1989, includes a staff of 12 members involved in teaching, research and community services. Baylor University in Waco, Texas, hosts the "Baylor Institute of Air Science" working on two main areas of research and development: research and development of renewable fuels for aviation and air quality monitoring using instrumented aircraft. The program has evolved over the course of the last decade into a unique academic program called the "scientist-pilot program". The Chairman of the Aviation Science Dep.Dr. Max Shauck, has received the prestigious individual "2001 Excellence in Aviation Award" for his continued contributions to the success of the nation's aviation goals through aviation research and education and development activities.

Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University (ERAU) has been a leader in
aviation for over 50 years. Its two major campuses are in Daytona Beach, Florida, and Prescott, Arizona, Embry-Riddle's. The extended campus has educational centers offering aviation degree programs in 36 states in the United States, and 16 locations throughout Europe representing all the major General Aviation communities.

Arizona State University offers an Environmental Technology Management (ETM) program as part of the College of Technology and Applied Sciences and offers both a B.S. and M.S. in Environmental Technology. All ETM courses are taught in computer-mediated classrooms and utilize Blackboard TM as a platform for web based delivery of information and communication.
